We had been replacing the shafts and bearings a little at a time over the last year to keep it moving, but the final few gears inside were still slipping so the robot just crawled slowly along the bottom. We took a chance on the rebuild kit and now the robot just flies through the pool like it was new!
The only really tricky thing about the rebuild kit was realizing that we needed to saw off the "outrigger arm" on the old cone turbine that normally keeps the metal rods in place. The kit has a piece that is already holding the rods in place so the arm was superfluous. I'm guessing that this kit can be used with different generations of the cleaner and ours just happened to be one of the older ones.
